1. How long have you been volunteering at CTRC?
I have been a volunteer for over a year now.
2. What inspired you to start volunteering at CTRC?
When I first moved to this area, I would see the “volunteers needed” sign on 52. One day I told my husband I was going to “try it out”. He said, “Oh, I didn’t know you were a ‘horse person’.” And to be honest, I didn’t know I was either until I started volunteering and fell absolutely in love with the horses!!
3. What is your favorite part of volunteering with us?
My favorite part of volunteering here is…that’s a tough one…I’d have to say mucking stalls during the summer. That’s when the horses are in their stalls at the same time I’m mucking and I get to talk to them and give them lots of love! During classes, well that’s business time, but while mucking, I get to be more natural and loving to them. That’s also when I see their personalities shine too!
4. What would you say to someone considering volunteering here?
If I knew someone considering to volunteer at CTRC, I would tell them to quit stalling(no pun intended!) and get to volunteering! I know they will love it as I do. The people working/volunteering here are the kindest, most helpful and compassionate folks around. And the horses are beautiful beings; all so different and wonderful. If they want to help out and learn bunches about horses and their care and about the clients and how to help them, this is the best place to be!
5. Who is your favorite horse?
My favorite horse…another super tough question to answer…I guess I’d have to say Rourke, he’s so sweet and gentle and loves his neck being scratched. But Miss Sindy is a sweetheart too. And Sink can be so silly…okay, if I had to pick just one, it’d be Rourke!
6. What do you like to do outside of your time at CTRC?
In my free time outside of CTRC I love to be out in Mother Nature: hiking, walking, camping, swimming, enjoying wildlife, even doing yard/garden work. I also love to read, complete puzzles of any kind, have game nights with family and friends, and travel. And of course, many of these activities my husband, Ron, and I love enjoying together!
