1. How long have you been volunteering at CTRC?
I’ve been volunteering since January of 2012.

2. What inspired you to start volunteering at CTRC?
I retired from my project management job with IBM in October of 2011, and I knew that I wanted to make horses a key part of my retirement sanity strategy. I started volunteering at Colorado Horse Rescue and Medicine Horse right away, but I was not aware of CTRC until I met another volunteer at a natural horsemanship clinic. For a while there, I was volunteering at all three places but I was flitting around so much that I didn’t really know anybody anywhere! Then I decided to focus completely on CTRC because of the people and the breadth of things I am able to do as volunteer.

3. What is your favorite part of volunteering with us?
It’s very hard for me to pick out one favorite thing, because I love just about everything for different reasons. Summer turn in in the cool, crisp morning air. Getting a bit of a workout mucking instead of going to the gym. Breathing in the joy that seems to permeate the place. Helping a rider have an experience that they wouldn’t be able to have otherwise. Being able to do Masterson body work on the herd. My primary love language is acts of service, and CTRC is a very satisfying place to be because you will absolutely never run out of things to do!

4. What would you say to someone considering volunteering here?
I would tell a potential volunteer to just give it a try, and not be concerned about what you think you do or don’t know. CTRC has an incredible generosity of spirit in terms of sharing knowledge with volunteers. I learn something almost every day I’m there. There are a lot of things that need to be done, and there’s a very good chance that you will love at least one of them!

5. Who is your favorite horse?
Of course Soc (puppet) is my very favorite horse. I’ve been his barn buddy for 8 years!

6.  What do you like to do outside of your time at CTRC?
Outside of CTRC, my other favorite thing is singing with the Coal Creek Community Chorus. I’m also very involved with my spiritual community. I enjoy reading, learning new things, and live and recorded music of all types.
