1. How long have you been volunteering at CTRC?
I have been volunteering since 2009, when my son entered first grade.

2. What inspired you to start volunteering at CTRC?

My son started riding at age 4, after he was diagnosed with low tone, gross motor delays, and sensory integration issues.  He gained so much from riding each week and I wanted to give back to the place that had helped him.  He continued riding until he was 19.

3. What is your favorite part of volunteering with us?
It is hard to pick a favorite part of being at CTRC.  I really enjoy seeing riders develop even a little bit more independence, gain a little strength, learn even a basic skill.  I also very much enjoy working with the horses, both in class and while conditioning, and other volunteers. I care very much for all the horses, but have a soft spot for Bo, my barn buddy, Tonks, our foxtrotter with the fun gaits, and Cream and Trigger, who I frequently lunge for exercise.

4. What would you say to someone considering volunteering here?
I recommend volunteering to anyone, horse experience or no.  It is very rewarding to see the little weekly triumphs.

5. What do you like to do outside of your time at CTRC?
Outside of CTRC, I work during the school year for St. Vrain Community Schools in before and after-school care.  I have been practicing Aikido for nearly 30 years and try to get to class at least twice a week.  I have also been in the Longmont Chorale since the spring of 2023.
