In 2013, 14-year-old Mitchel survived a suicide attempt after being bullied, thanks to the swift response of a 911 operator, first responders, and medical teams across multiple hospitals. He sustained an anoxic brain injury and now lives with a disability, but he hasn’t stopped moving forward. Since beginning equine-assisted therapy at CTRC in 2017, Mitchel has made incredible progress. Riding has improved his balance, mobility, and motivation. “When he started, he couldn’t say ‘walk on,’ so we settled on ‘Hi HO,’” his parents shared. Today, he walks up the ramp to mount his horse with determination and joy. With the unwavering support of CTRC instructors, horse leaders, and sidewalkers, Mitchel has formed meaningful connections that continue to inspire his growth. “He loves horse therapy because it feels like fun instead of work.”
