Position Title: Therapeutic Riding Instructor

Location: Longmont, Colorado

Reports to: Head Instructor

Responsibilities:

The Therapeutic Riding Instructor will be responsible for providing therapeutic horsemanship instruction according to PATH Intl. and CTRC guidelines, with a primary focus on maintaining the safety of participants, volunteers, and horses. Key responsibilities include:

  • Teaching multiple classes during sessions
  • Completing participant documentation and evaluations
  • Supervising and mentoring Instructors in Training
  • Organizing and maintaining program equipment and facilities
  • Assisting with special projects and events

Key Job Duties:

Instruction:

  • Instruct all assigned riding classes in a timely, professional, effective, and safe manner
  • Adhere to all PATH Intl. guidelines pertinent to class instruction
  • Develop and implement individual participant goals
  • Complete participant progress notes and evaluations
  • Serve as a mentor to Instructors in Training
  • Select appropriate tack and adaptive equipment
  • Oversee grooming and tacking procedures
  • Ensure lessons begin and end on time
  • Manage volunteers assisting in lessons
  • Maintain a neat and orderly arena, tack room, and office areas
  • Pursue ongoing training and professional development
  • Ensure horse safety and report concerns to Barn Manager or Barn Assistant
  • Perform tack safety checks before each lesson

Program Maintenance:

  • Maintain a quality therapeutic riding program
  • Represent CTRC positively to participants, volunteers, and the public
  • Attend staff and instructor meetings
  • Handle operating center emergencies
  • Maintain communication with support staff
  • Ensure classes run smoothly and safely
  • Inspect and maintain program equipment
  • Assist with special events coordination
  • Develop new lesson curriculum ideas
  • Write participant achievement and PATH Intl. awards
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures in the Program Operations Manual
  • Manage horse safety and report any concerns

Volunteer Management:

  • Ensure volunteer safety
  • Communicate positively and respectfully with volunteers
  • Solicit and encourage volunteer feedback
  • Provide ongoing volunteer training, evaluation, and recognition
  • Attend volunteer training sessions and horse handling clinics

Professional Behavior:

  • Represent CTRC positively and professionally
  • Prioritize safety in all actions and activities
  • Support an effective team environment through ethical communication
  • Demonstrate respect, compassion, and caring for participants, volunteers, and community members
