Sandy is a long-time volunteer. She was active in the Mini Troopers program where, as part of the Mini Troopers team, she accompanied our mini-pony, Carmella, at community events and even visiting assisted living centers. Sandy is a barn buddy to Carmella, and now Dilly, and is also a sidewalker in classes. Sandy is wonderful to be around and an advocate for volunteering at CTRC for anyone, even if they have no horse experience.
1. How long have you been volunteering at CTRC?
I began volunteering at CTRC in the fall of 2006 after retiring from the public library system in California and moving to Colorado.
2. What inspired you to start volunteering at CTRC?
Volunteering at CTRC was a wonderful opportunity to fulfill a lifelong dream to be working and learning the skills of horsemanship and bonding with horses while providing a service of kindness to the riders and families.
3. What is your favorite part of volunteering with us?
Witnessing the profound life-enhancing benefits from therapeutic riding and from the skilled therapists and team work of the volunteers and marvelous horses and so much more is a heartwarming experience.
4. What would you say to someone considering volunteering here?
Volunteers are well training in horse handing and safety. CTRC staff is helpful, welcoming, and appreciative of all volunteers. Also, as a volunteer you get a chance to meet other volunteers and bond with horses and riders.
5. What do you like to do outside of your time at CTRC?
Outside of CTRC, I enjoy walking my dog, volunteering at our community library, and spending time with family and friends.
