Volunteer of the Month Interview Questions:

1. How long have you been volunteering at CTRC?
I’ve been volunteering just over 4 years, since winter session before COVID.  I did my first sidewalking winter session and started horseleading in spring, but spring session 2020 was canceled and we all went home due to the pandemic.  By summer session, we were back in classes in a limited fashion, with all sorts of COVID precautions including masking in classes.  I volunteered all through COVID and continued after restrictions were lifted.
2. What inspired you to start volunteering at CTRC?
A coworker encouraged me to look into volunteering.  She and I both still volunteer at CTRC.
3. What is your favorite part of volunteering with us?
I love the atmosphere at CTRC.  We all pitch in to do our part. We keep an eye out for each other and lend a hand to new volunteers, or if someone is having a difficult day.  CTRC is therapeutic not only for those in EAT or Therapeutic Riding classes, but also for volunteers. Brushing a horse and helping in classes or just mucking a stall in the cold winter air really centers me.
4. What would you say to someone considering volunteering here

Come join us! It’s a great change of pace and a wonderful way to connect with horses and with people in a healing atmosphere.

5. What do you like to do outside of your time at CTRC?

I love hiking or snowshoeing and photographing wildflowers or birds.  I love to walk in the woods and see new trails and new places.  I’m always on the lookout for a rare or new-to-me species of wildflower or bird.
